Our coverage of EdReform Virginia’s first three school choice events followed a standard format: in addition to sharing photos and videos on social media, we published one article summarizing the annual program.
This year was different.
If you’ve been following EdNews Virginia over the last two weeks, you saw a continuous wave of coverage. We didn’t just want to inform you that over 100 men, women and children gathered in Arlington on March 7 to discuss educational freedom; our goal was to show you the real breadth of movement they are building.
The Wider Community Takes Note
It wasn’t just our team who recognized the annual gathering’s significance. This year’s event generated attention from local, ethnic and national/global outlets:
- On the Airwaves: WMAL, the D.C. area’s most-listened-to commercial talk radio station, interviewed me before this year’s school choice event. In addition, WMAL.com republished several of EdNews Virginia’s articles following the event.
- Local Interest: The ARLnow team featured this year’s event in their Morning Notes, signaling its relevance in Northern Virginia.
- Community Outreach: The full event was livestreamed by HTDVPTV for the channel’s audience in the Vietnamese community, ensuring that our message of educational freedom reached well beyond the venue’s walls on March 7.
- National & International Perspective: Vision Times published a very substantive article by Alina Wang, Virginia’s Education Debate Takes Center Stage at Annual School Choice Celebration.

Why the Deep Dive?
The educational freedom movement is often discussed in broad, lofty terms. But on the ground, the reality is more diverse. Since not all families are the same — and not all kids within the same family are the same — school choice offers a mosaic of learning environments with various “flavors” to choose from.
Whether a family is looking for classical education, expanded services for a child with unique needs, a wholesome after-school activity or a safer online video platform, solutions could be found on March 7 — and now in the list above.
The Road Ahead
The March 7 celebration was a high-water mark for us, but EdReform Virginia’s mission continues year-round. As we move into the spring, our focus remains on ensuring that relevant, timely information reaches the families who need it most.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on March 7 — and to you, our EdNews Virginia readers — for keeping this movement alive. Please stay connected via social media and please don’t hesitate to send us any news tips from your kids’ schools!
