Virginia Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week

It’s officially Teacher Appreciation Week in Virginia.

Across the Commonwealth, PTA’s and PTO’s have been organizing to deliver treats and other tokens of appreciation to classroom instructors. Various businesses are offering discounts or freebies to educators as well — McDonald’s, for instance, is giving away medium-sized beverages to Virginia teachers through May 12.

On Monday, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a proclamation hailing the Commonwealth’s educators as “trusted, respected professionals who must be empowered and supported to do their best work and to provide high-quality, innovative learning experiences that serve all students.”

State Superintendent Lisa Coons released a video honoring Virginia teachers. “This week, I ask you to take a minute to thank your child’s teacher, to thank a teacher that you remember that shaped your life, and to honor the Virginia teachers,” Coons said.
