At last night’s meeting of the Fairfax County School Board, members heard a blistering video testimony regarding the high salaries of 71 senior administrators.
The comments from Stephanie Lundquist-Arora, who leads the county’s Independent Women’s Network chapter, were submitted as the board struggles to resolve a projected $154 million budget shortfall.
“A district that has lost enrollment and still needs a $150 million bailout has no business protecting top administrators’ $17 million payroll while floating the idea of larger class sizes,” Lundquist-Arora told the board. “If FCPS wants taxpayers and parents to believe that Fiscal Year 2028 is truly a difficult budget year, it should start by cutting the C-suite.”
Last night’s themes echo a recent commentary from Lundquist-Arora that was published by EdNews Virginia, in which she noted the school division’s budget has grown by $1 billion since Fiscal Year 2021, even though enrollment declined.
“Every year the district cries poverty to the Board of Supervisors, and every year the checkbook somehow finds room for six-figure ‘Chiefs’ of everything from equity to experience and engagement,” Lundquist-Arora wrote in her September 21 column.
