Free Virtual ‘Parent Chat’ to Help Families Understand K-12 Options

EdNews Virginia | February 19, 2026

For many families, the wide array of educational options — from district-run “ZIP code” and countywide schools to private, online, and micro schools — can be as overwhelming as it is exciting. To help parents find the right match for their children, Navigate School Choice is hosting a free virtual “Parent Chat” tonight, February 19, at 6:00 PM ET.

Real-Time Support

The session, titled “Navigating School Choice Together,” aims to give families stress-free guidance for any stage of their educational journey. Tonight’s chat will focus on the various hurdles parents might face, including:

  • Understanding enrollment timelines and deadlines
  • Filling out necessary paperwork and applications
  • Evaluating “school fit” to ensure a child’s unique needs are met

Empowerment Through Information

“Whether you’ve found the right school or you’re still exploring, this live parent chat is for you,” according to event organizers.

Navigate School Choice is operated by the National School Choice Awareness Foundation (NSCAF), best known for organizing National School Choice Week every January. NSCAF’s mission is to raise awareness of all kinds of education options, ensuring that every family has the information they need to help their children thrive.

A Resource for the ‘Parent Revolution’

Nathan Brinkman, executive director of EdReform Virginia, encourages families to join tonight’s online event. “As Virginians increasingly want better learning environments for their kids, the biggest barrier is often just knowing where to start,” Brinkman said. “Tonight’s virtual chat aims to solve that problem.”
